Our Commitment to Your Family's Privacy

Faithful Tutor is designed for families with children. We take the privacy of your children extremely seriously and comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We never sell data. We never show ads. Your children's information is used solely to provide personalized education.

1. Who We Are

Faithful Tutor is a faith-integrated AI tutoring platform for homeschool families. We provide personalized, adaptive educational experiences for students in grades 4 through 12, teaching every subject from a Christian worldview as configured by the parent or guardian.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information from parents and their children who use our Service.

2. Information We Collect from Parents

3. Information We Collect from Children

Important: COPPA Compliance

We collect children's information only with verifiable parental consent, provided when the parent creates the account and adds student profiles. Children cannot create accounts independently.

Note: The Service currently requires students to be 13 years of age or older. We plan to implement additional COPPA safeguards before expanding to younger students.

We do not collect: photos, videos, precise location data, contact lists, social media identifiers, or any biometric data from children.

4. How We Use Information

All information collected is used solely for the following purposes:

Providing personalized, adaptive educational tutoring
Generating progress reports visible to parents on the dashboard
Improving the AI tutor's ability to teach each individual student effectively
Processing subscription payments
Communicating important account and service updates to parents
Providing parent-visible notifications when the AI redirects a student to discuss a sensitive topic with their parents
Detecting and responding to potential student crisis situations (see Section 4a)

We do not use children's data for:

Advertising or marketing of any kind
Selling or renting to any third party
Building profiles for purposes unrelated to education
Training AI models (Anthropic's API data handling policy prohibits this)

4a. Crisis Detection Data Handling

If our AI detects a potential student crisis, crisis resources are provided directly to the student. For the safety of the child, crisis-triggered responses are NOT reported to the parent dashboard or any other party. We do not store or flag which students have received crisis resources. We do not notify parents, guardians, or any third party when crisis resources are provided to a student.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Faithful Tutor. Each is used for a specific, limited purpose:

Anthropic (Claude API)	AI tutoring engine	Student questions, responses, grade level, learning context, and content control settings are sent to generate personalized tutoring. Anthropic's API data policy states that customer data is not used to train models.
OpenAI (GPT-4o-mini)	AI tutoring failover	Used only when the primary AI provider (Anthropic) is unavailable. Same data scope as Anthropic.
Google AI (Gemini)	AI tutoring failover	Used only when both Anthropic and OpenAI are unavailable. Same data scope as Anthropic.
Stripe	Payment processing	Parent email and payment details. Stripe handles all credit card data — we never see or store card numbers.
Supabase	Database hosting	All application data, encrypted at rest and in transit.
Vercel	Application hosting	Serves the web application. Standard web server logs (IP addresses, request data).
Cloudflare	Bot protection (Turnstile)	IP address and browser fingerprint for invisible CAPTCHA verification on unauthenticated routes.

We do not share children's personal information with any parties other than those listed above, and only for the stated purposes. We do not permit any third party to use children's data for their own marketing or advertising purposes.

6. Data Retention

Active accounts: Student data is retained while the family account is active, as it is necessary for the ongoing tutoring service.
Account deletion: Upon account deletion by the parent, all student data is permanently and irreversibly deleted from our systems within 30 days.
Session logs: Detailed tutoring session logs older than 12 months are automatically archived and anonymized. Only aggregate mastery data is retained.
Student essays: Student essays in the Writing Desk are retained as long as the student profile exists. Parents may delete individual essays or the entire student profile at any time.
AI usage logs: AI usage logs (which record model, task type, and cost data but not conversation content) are retained for 24 months for billing reconciliation and platform improvement.
Canceled subscriptions: Account data is retained for 90 days after cancellation to allow reactivation, then permanently deleted unless the parent requests earlier deletion.

7. Parental Rights (COPPA)

Your Rights as a Parent

Under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), you have specific rights regarding your children's personal information. We honor all of these rights.

As a parent or guardian, you may at any time:

Review all data collected about your children — accessible from the Parent Dashboard under each child's profile
Review all AI conversation transcripts (tutoring, Wonder, Bible study) from the Parent Dashboard
Read all essays written by their children in the Writing Desk
Download your children's data in a standard, machine-readable format
Request deletion of any or all of your children's data — either specific data points or entire student profiles
Refuse further collection by deleting a child's profile or canceling your account entirely
Withdraw consent for data processing at any time, understanding that this may limit the Service's ability to provide personalized tutoring

To exercise any of these rights, you may use the tools in your Parent Dashboard or contact us at support@faithfultutor.com. We will respond to all requests within 48 hours.

8. Data Security

We implement the following security measures to protect your family's data:

Encryption in transit: All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted using TLS (Transport Layer Security)
Encryption at rest: All stored data is encrypted at rest in our database
Row-level security: Database-level access controls ensure that each family can only access their own data — no family can ever see another family's information
Prompt injection defenses: All AI routes include defenses to prevent manipulation of the AI tutor's safety systems
Rate limiting: Abuse prevention including daily request caps, message length limits, and CAPTCHA verification
No card storage: Credit card information is handled entirely by Stripe and never touches our servers
Access controls: Internal access to data is restricted to essential personnel only
Regular reviews: We conduct periodic security reviews of our systems and third-party integrations

9. Cookies

Faithful Tutor uses only essential cookies required for the Service to function:

Authentication cookies: Required to keep you logged in during your session
Session cookies: Required for the application to function properly

We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or any third-party cookies. We do not participate in any advertising networks or cross-site tracking.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes — particularly any changes affecting how we handle children's data — we will notify all registered parents by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly.

Continued use of the Service after notification of changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with any changes, you may delete your account and request deletion of all data.
